Cattle, from the ranch to the filed statement

A head of cattle may pass through several farms between birth and slaughter, and the EUDR asks about every one. Whether you import beef or live cattle, every establishment where the animals were kept needs its geolocation and its evidence.

What is covered

Live cattle, beef fresh, chilled or frozen, offal, and prepared beef. Cattle means the genus Bos: buffalo and bison are not covered. Frozen tongues join on 30 December 2027.

Since 18 September 2026, hides, skins and leather are out of scope.

Who files

The company that first places the goods on the EU market files the due diligence statement, usually a meat importer. The companies after it in the chain keep records of their suppliers and customers.

From when

From 30 December 2026, or from 30 June 2027 for companies that were micro or small on 31 December 2024.

The plots you will get

Every establishment where the animals were kept, from birth to slaughter: ranches, often hundreds of hectares, and the farms the animals passed through. The fields that grew their feed do not stand in for them.

The slaughterhouse or the exporter is usually the supplier who can gather them. Ask from the app: they get an email in their language, Portuguese or Spanish among them, with reminders, and send the establishments from their own list, which serves every buyer who asks.

A point is allowed for a cattle establishment beyond the 4 hectares other plots stop at, but an outline gives a fairer result: a point is read as a circle of the declared area, which can take in a neighbour's clearing, or miss one on the ranch itself.

Your supplier can send a Brazilian property's boundary as registered in the CAR, the rural environmental register, and it is assessed as sent.

Where it comes from

Most beef the EU imports comes from South America: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay among them. Each country's risk level changes what your due diligence must cover.
